In the '50's and '60's the building on the north edge of Humboldt was a factory. In the '70's and '80's it was used to manufacture fertilizer.
But when it went out of business in '90' it became something else ... an eyesore.
This week is the beginning of the end for that "eyesore." Demolition crews have begun the six month process of tearing the factory down. Once the building are torn down, six inches of contaminated top soil will be removed from the area.
A Houston-based company bought the land and assumed the cleanup responsibilities last year.
