Officials with Hollywood Slots in Bangor say the demolition of the hotel marks the first large-scale demolition project in preparation for a new gaming facility, which is scheduled to open in 2008. A nearby Holiday Inn also faces demolition later this year as part of the project.

The current Hollywood Slots facility, which holds 475 slot machines, opened last November.

The new $70 million facility would be located just down the street. It will open with 1,000 slot machines and have the capacity for 1,500.
