That's hard, because you don't really know the crew that you are working with under those circumstances. Seems that it would slow production if you don't know how capable or reliable your operators are. Doesn't seem to make much sense to do it that way. Do companies ever get to use their own men if they are local and belong to that particular union.
good luck to Demco they will definetly have their work cut out for them. They will only be able to bring 2 or 3 of their key operators and ther rest they will have to hire out of the hall. It can be tough to find operators out of the hall with wrecking experience. I am not saying that there arent any but its tough....

Demco has been showing there face here in Detroit too. They just did a sizable project for Ford in Dearborn. It is nice to see the "in with new out with the old" attitude in NY. Here in Detroit we have buildings that have been sitting eyesores for 30 years or better due to Historical Society b-crap.
New York is about the worst with what you call the historial society b-crap. In fact, they invented it in new york. otherwise known as hysterical preservation.

I have bid 4 stadium projects and landed 1. That went for $3.75 million in 01but was an implosion. Shea was $5.4 million just last year. Veterans went for around the same as Shea. Yankee stadium for what they called for made it more expensive, scaffolding the train line, limited hours of work, steel dropping like a lead weight made it much more difficult. 13 million is very expensive when it comes to stadiums, my bet is when the Cowboys do theirs it is around $4.7 million.

Inside sources tell me DEMCO Orchard Park NY is the selected contractor for the demolition of old YANKEE STADIUM $13,000,000 is what my sources tell me. City estimate $22-25,000,0000!!. My sources tell me the Yankees and the city have sold over $20,000,000 in memorabilia. YOU DO THE MATH.
All the speculation about TESTA having the "inside track" was just that speculation. The origional city estimate (budget) was $44,000,000!
What stadium were they looking at!!!
In this economy the lowest bidder for everything wins. That being said, its not always necessarily the 'right' choice.
It's like any gambling move to 'name the right price' and apparently DEMCO took the chance to bid so insanely low that no one else could 'compete'.
In the history of the world of high profile jobs where the lowest bidder was so far off from the next lowest, it has became the death of that company.
In the months to come lets see if they can live up to their bold claims to be able to handle Yankee Stadium at the bid they won.
New York City is no stranger to estimating demolition jobs. Remember that New York State (the Empire State) is literally a country unto themselves.
Bidding $10-12million under the citiy's estimate seems a bit 'unethical'.
I think there's more here than meets the eye.
