Demolition work on the site had started in early May 2011, but Shelby Township, MN issued a "stop work order" after learning that certain components of the buildings, including water pipes and electrical lines, were being dismantled and removed without permission.

In response, the township's building and planning officials recommended that the planning commission adopt a site review process, which included the establishment of 32 conditions of approval that must be met prior to resuming demolition of the buildings.

The former Ford/Visteon plant is comprised of five main industrial buildings contains about 1.87 million square foot.
