While the official magazine hasn't arrived in my snail-mail box yet, ENR published its Top 600 Specialty Contractors online a few days ago.
The main focus of the story is the fact that specialty contractors and subcontractors are suffering the most in this recession. Towards the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 most specialty contractors seemed unaffected by the recession. The later part of the year, however, turned ugly as all those projects that were set in motion 1-2 years ago were coming to an end closing the backlog doors behind them.
Key factors like the drop in the value of scrap metal to a feast or famine flucuations in estimators value for bids on projects has caused a dramatic stir in the market.
When the market will come back is unknown but some are predicting 2011 as a start.
