The old East Brady Bridge is scheduled to be demolished on Monday morning.
Officials dedicated and opened to traffic the new two-lane Sgt. Carl F. Curran II Memorial Bridge several weeks ago.
PennDOT officials say explosives will be used to create a controlled burn to remove the old bridge from its piers and abutments.
The explosives will break the bridge into 24 sections that will drop into the Allegheny River.
They will be removed by Brayman Construction Co. of Saxonburg - the prime contractor for the bridge replacement project.
During the blast, a shaking sensation caused by vibrations in the air may be experienced.
Ground tremors will not result from the blast, officials said.
The exact time of the blast has not been announced due to the number of factors that will need to be investigated that morning.
Demtech Inc. of Dubois, Wy., is the subcontractor responsible for the task.
A safety radius of 750 feet will be maintained around the old bridge.
Those within the radius will be asked to temporarily vacate the area that morning.
Those present to witness the demolition, even outside of the safety radius, will do so at their own risk.
Cogley Park and the boat launch on the Armstrong County side of the Allegheny River will be closed off at sundown Sunday.
Once the old bridge is dropped into the river by the blast, Brayman Construction will have up to 72 hours to clear an 80-foot channel for river traffic.
Officials say crews will continue to clear the rest of the structure from the water after the channel is opened.
