another great video. i am not into the tilt shift on the stills (we use to get the same effect by putting vasoline around the outside of a clear filter) as far as the demo goes I think it was a good job. the operator brought it down fast and he did do some seperation. They didn't want to keep the lane closure up all day with the police. its like sunday football its easy being a lounge chair quarterback and saying what should have been done.

Well the video and pictures are great as always. Steve does great work. As far as the job, well I guess they call their operator "Twister" because that's what it looked like. Going fast is one thing but doing the job clean tells a lot about the operator. I know C&D cost a lot to dump but with the mess he made they must of been there for weeks picking. Of course with all the Mexicans I saw on the ground he must of saved money with cheap labor. I wonder if they are osha30 trained which is a law now in nj?

mdemo69,

you say you have 20+ years in demo, then you should've pointed out that they weren't using water for dust suppression, even though you can clearly see in the video that the hose is connected and charged. Also, you failed to note that an operator got out of his equipment wqithout a hard hat or vest on while talking to a ground guy who had his safety glasses on his hard hat. They're pretty useless up there wouldn't you say? Or are you just a run n gun type of guy that doesn't care about the safety aspect of a job. One injury can cost alot more to a company than having to pick through debris by hand or with a machine.

Also, given the time and date of your post, does your company have that little of work that you have time to visit other sites and then post your opinion about them? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're an working operator and not just some wannabe.

once again nice vid. but not so great operator.IMHO I wonder how many scratches are on the bucket piston? saw him get a little ahead of him self and drop building pieces on the fence Surprised .I also noticed him snag a hyd line. Also he did need to move stiff arm out a bit I know nobody's perfect and you cant hit home runs all the time and its demo and machines take a beating. just my 2 cents

he kinda has a point, the operator a good job and took it down safetly without anything falling in the street but u should always try to keep the wood seperate, mdemo i see your point. Bosses and recyclers flip their shit when theres a lot of wood and trash in the brick and concrete. you should always try to seperate as much as you wreck but sometimes its impossible to get all the wood out.. And theres no way they r sending all the brick out as trash that would cost way to much $$$$

After seeing the pics and video and being there in person, what would you have done differently? With all your experience, I am sure you have suggestions.

Do U think maby they bid the job just to send all the debris out as waste...if you look real hard there is a whole lot of wood...So do U think it would be cost effective to have 25 labors picking through all that wood for several days just to send out a couple loads of brick....Who are u to judge someone just by looking at some photos and a video...Are U gods gift to the Demolition world....I dont think so

Do I think I'm GOD's gift to the demo world??? No...and I never said I was, even with my 20+ years of doing demolition myself. I have been training operators for quite some time and if you want to talk about fast, I've broken records for fastest times set by some of the best! However, you can tell the difference between the cowboys who just want to show how fast they are...some of us think about the BIG picture. Anyone who lives within the NJ/NY/PA area knows how expensive landfills are becoming and the fact that the bidding process has become so insane with companies "low-balling" just to get the work. A good operator will separate the major debris while he's doing the demo. You wouldn't need 25 laborers to pick and yes, it would be cost effective to pick some of it. Bricks can be recycled and sometimes so can the wood. Think about the bottom line for the company...$60/load to recycle or $65/ton for C&D. You do the math. You think I'm trying to say I can do better...I'm thinking about the bottom line and the future of my own kids when I say I DO BETTER! FYI - I didn't just see videos and pictures...I'm doing a job less than 10 minutes from where this building once stood.

Mr. Setteducati - your work is amazing and I look forward to seeing your future work.

GREAT VIDEO! But not so great on the demo. A lot of mix material, which is not good for the recyling industry. You can be fast AND sloppy if you dont separate. And the skidsteer...why curl bucket to pick up brick? It's not steel. Sorry guys demo is done a lot better in today's industry. FYI...adjust your stiff arm its too far back. You will see an improvement in clean-up and demo.

On November 24, 2009 DonJon Demolition Services a division of DonJon Marine Salvage demolished the Bolmer Motor Car Co.building in historic Bound Brook, New Jersey.
Built around 1916 the historic Bolmer building was home to Bolmer Motor Car Co. up to the 1970's.
It was a dealership for early Desotos and Plymouth's in the late 60's.
The 2 story wood and steel frame brick building boasted a showroom on the second floor.
In more recent years it served as a body shop, and municipal garage for the borough of Bound Brook.
The floods of Hurricane Floyd in 1999 put this and other buildings nearby under almost 12 feet of water weakening the structure.
