The Swisco Road Construction and Demolition landfill in Sulphur, LA was shut down Friday after Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality inspections showed numerous violations, according to a news release.
These violations include the landfill taking in unapproved waste, not putting material into the "smallest practical area," improper signage and a fire that burned from Sept. 5 to Sept. 19. As a result of Friday's order, the landfill cannot accept more waste and needs to be closed and capped with clay within the next six months.
