Montreal-based scrap metal specialist American Iron & Metal Co., owner of the mill site, is taking down Kimberly, Wisconsin's iconic smoke stacks as part of its ongoing efforts to redevelop the site. The two towers that appear on the village's logo have stood side-by-side since the 1920s and have become a symbol of the community.
Jeff McGlin of AIM Demolition USA said crews could begin dismantling the smoke stacks on next week using a "concrete crushing" device attached to a crane cable. The demolition is expected to last two days.
