Demolition is under way at the former Gates rubber factory site.
Tuesday, crews began working on the old creamery building, which is south of the factory on Mississippi Avenue and South Broadway.
Demolition teams predict it will take a few weeks to knock down the 400,000 square foot building.
Two excavators started work on the brick and concrete structure Tuesday morning.
Gates produced rubber products at the Denver site for 85 years before moving its manufacturing overseas.
This demolition project is part of a multi-year plan by Cherokee Denver to redevelop the area into a place for people to live, work and play.
"This is really one of the first publicly visible steps in what will become one of the area's greatest transit oriented areas," said Matt Wittern, the project spokesman.
The creamery building site will eventually become a residential area.
Alpine Demolition is overseeing the demolition, which will take two to three months to complete.
