The Idaho Falls City Council gave the go ahead Thursday night for the new Melaleuca Field that will replace McDermott Field.
Demolition will begin Monday at 1:00 p.m.
For the Chukars organization, this is an exciting time.
"It's going to be an exciting new time for us, we've always been well supported we've been with the Kansas City Royals a couple years, and they've given us good ball teams. It just means that minor league baseball has a home in Idaho Falls guaranteed for another 30 plus years," says Kevin Greene, Chukars General Manager.
The new stadium will cost the city $2.4 million, and the overall project will cost more than $5 million.
During a city council workshop Thursday afternoon, all of the foreseeable problems were laid out on the table. The biggest possible problem the city sees is parking. They said they will save that issue until the end of the project to see what kind of funding is left.
The construction manager will be Kim Hall of Bateman Hall.
If you are one of the first 200 people to stop at McDermott Field to watch the demolition on Monday, you could get free food. A ground breaking ceremony will follow the demolition. The project is expected to be finished by May 31st. The Chukars begin their season in June of next year.
