[FONT=Verdana]The Spaulding Fibre project in the City of Tonawanda NY will receive more than $1 million from the county for demolition and cleanup, Erie County Executive Joel A. Giambra announced. [/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana]The 47-acre site has been vacant since the company went bankrupt and shut down in 1992. It includes more than 800,000 square feet of buildings. [/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana]City of Tonawanda Mayor Ronald Pilozzi said the state has already spent more than $3 million cleaning up portions of the former industrial site, but the county funds will be concentrated on demolition of the buildings. [/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana]"This is good news and has the potential of taking 47 acres in a city of 3 square miles and opening it for development," Pilozzi said. "That's a big deal for a community of this size."[/FONT]
