The C. Grantham Co. of Caseyville, Ill., has been awarded the demolition contract for the old Omaha Standard property.
"We went out for competitive bids and the Grantham Company was the low bidder," said Mark Norman, executive director of the Pottawattamie County Development Corporation.
The PCDC owns the property. Omaha Standard has moved into its new state-of-the art headquarters on the corner of South 11th Street and 35th Avenue.
Grantham is probably best known locally for its work as a subcontractor on the Omaha lead-removal project, Norman said. Demolition work on West Broadway is expected to begin within a couple of weeks.
"They should be completed within 120 days," Norman said.
The first phase will involve the demolition all the Omaha Standard buildings and the four-plex apartment building on 25th Street.
The PCDC continues to work with the Seldin Co. to develop the site, and it could be late summer or early fall before those details are finalized, Norman said.
