The University of Arkansas has begun tearing down the Carlson Terrace Apartments, which served for years as student housing on the Fayetteville Campus.

The 14 buildings were built between 1958 and 1961 and were originally intended for married students.

The work is harder than planners thought it would be.

Contractors began demolition Monday, but they had to stop. Officials say there was a lot of reinforced concrete, and sturdier demolition equipment will be needed.

The dorms are being torn down to make way for a new Lady Razorbacks softball complex.
