[SIZE=2]Demolition of the Roanoke City Mills in Roanoke, VA complex will begin in two to three weeks, according to a spokesman for Carilion Clinic.
A contractor took possession of the structure Monday and is preparing to fence the property. The entire process will take about four months, according to Carilion spokesman Eric Earnhart. Crews will use wrecking balls and backhoes to tear down the facility. The three tall silos and the tallest building on the property will be taken down on weekends.
The Roanoke City Mills complex dates back to 1917. Mennell Milling sold the facility in 2004 to make way for the Riverside Centre for Research and Technology. The company built a new facility in Roanoke County that began operation in 2007.
