The Orlando City Council reached an agreement to demolish the arena, which served as the home of the Orlando Magic from 1989 to 2010.

Demolition is scheduled to begin on December 15, 2011.

Almost every item left over inside the old arena was auctioned off earlier this year, to help make the transition to the new Amway Center.

Mayor Buddy Dyer called it a green demolition. "Aluminum and copper from the building will be sold, recycled and then the concrete will be broken up in, I guess, softball sized chunks" and stored on the floor of the old arena, which is below grade.
