Demolition of the old Rocky Point Amusement Park property is expected to begin next month, perhaps putting the land's redevelopment back on track.
The U.S. Small Business Administration, the Warwick property's state-appointed receiver, announced the demolition work yesterday.
The S-B-A says asbestos abatement at the site will start in the next few weeks.
That will be followed by the demolition of 40 to 50 buildings. The project is expected to cost $190,000.
A real estate consortium backed out of a deal to build condominiums at the site earlier this year, but city officials say other developers are now interested in the property.
The 122-acre park closed in 1995 and the land was sold for 25 million dollars in 2003.
