The five-year planning process to demolish the nearly 150-year old Welch's Food site in Chautauqua County has been completed.

Officials from the county and state say Titan Wrecking of Kenmore will start remedial work on Oct. 24. The project will cost just under $1 million, with New York state covering approximately 90 percent of the tab. Cleanup is expected to be finished early next year.
