Demolition work has begun at the former home of Adams County Motors, just north of Gettysburg.
The building, owned by the National Park Service is being gutted, and soon will be demolished.
Now known as Davidson Motor Company, the car dealership vacated the facility and surrounding property last fall.
The Park Service, in an effort to restore areas of the Gettysburg Battlefield to 1863 appearances, bought the six-and-a-half acre property in Aug. 2001 for $1.24 million.
But the Ford dealership, because of a four-year registered use agreement, was allowed to remain at the site until 2005. The contract expired in August.
Davidson Motors, however, vacated the property roughly 45 days after deadline, and was charged penalty fees by the Park Service.
Those fees will be used to offset a portion of the cost of the facility
