Demolition of the old Nabisco factory resumed this week after a fire interrupted the project last week.

The Orange County Fire Authority inspected the site that morning for safety requirements and made sure contractors had Fire Authority permits, which they lacked last week during the fire, said Authority Capt. Steve Miller.

The fire is under investigation and Brea-based CST Environmental may have to pay cost-recovery fees, Miller said.

Crews from CST Environmental sparked the fire in roof tar while torch-cutting on the factory's eastern end, said Steve Sandland, vice president of Centra Realty Corp., the Irvine company that owns the site.

About 60 firefighters responded to quell the fire, which took 70 minutes to extinguish. One firefighter was sent to the hospital for heat-related injuries.

Centra began demolition about three weeks ago and has until December to finish.
