The Detroit Economic Development Corp. today approved a contract that will result in the shuttered Lindell AC and another nearby building to be torn down to make way for a new Detroit Department of Transportation hub.
Carleton, Mich.-based Homrich, Inc. was approved for the $193,400 demolition, said Tim Miles, the DEC's project manager.
The contract calls for the razing of 1300-1320 Cass, the former home of the famed sports bar, to make room for the Rosa Parks Transit Center. A building at 350 Michigan Avenue also will be torn down. The center will be the city's new bus terminal.
Miles said the approval has to be put in writing, and then he officially can award the contract. He expects that to happen before the end of the week. It is unclear when demolition will begin.
