Officials say demolition of the 2.2-million-square-foot former Guide plant is underway in Anderson. The Herald Bulletin is reporting that North American Dismantling is hard at work on the 22 month project. The Guide closed abruptly on January 12, six months ahead of schedule.
The newspaper says more than 1,200 people worked at the Anderson plant at the time.
Officials say plans call for the interior walls to be torn down, leaving exterior walls intact in order to prevent looting, noise and excessive dust.
