It withstood years of abuse at the hands of spring breakers in the late '80s and early '90s, but a popular beachfront hotel in Daytona Beach could not withstand the 2004 hurricanes.
Owners have finally settled with the insurance company, and they're wasting no time demolishing the Beachcomber Hotel.
It is a shell of itself, and in a matter of weeks, everything that was the Beachcomber hotel will be gone.
The 2004 hurricanes put a lot of small and large companies like restaurants, shop and hotels out of business.
It is currently unknown what will go up in place of the Beachcomber Hotel.
"I hope something will be built on this site. The other side of that coin is we have some nice open space for the people to enjoy. It's better than an empty derelict building -- that's just not good," one resident said.
