For three years, Stubbs Tower in Savannah sat empty, as people talked about tearing it down. Now it's finally going to happen. On December 15, it will be reduced to rubble.
Tuesday the Housing Authority of Savannah spoke with residents living at the Veranda, which is located right next to Stubbs Tower, about what they could expect on demolition day.
"We're letting them know it will not be necessary for them to evacuate the building," Earline Davis with the housing authority said. "If they want to come outside and view the implosion, there's a viewing area."
Many probably will want to see it come down, since Stubbs was their home for a number of years. However, not all memories are fond ones.
Stubbs flooded November 14, 2004. The damage was so bad the housing authority shut the building down, leaving 85 people without a home.
