The best quote was from the Minister of the Environment where he said that "they didn't find any dead fish after the blast". No friggin' wonder. A 60 foot wave has a way of taking care of that! :)

According to some reports The Three Gorges dam was undamaged by Tuesday's demolition of the nearby cofferdam, monitoring equipment has shown.

The cofferdam protected the just-completed main wall of the Three Gorges Dam and was blown up with enough explosives to topple 400 10-story buildings. Although the waves caused by explosion were a little stronger than predicted, the dam and its power plant were unharmed, Wu Xinxia, head of the demolition under the Yangtze River Academy of Sciences, said yesterday.

I did! Looks like they just keep going and going.

How about all the detonation cord? it was everywhere. I could only image how they kept it all straight, it was hanging from everywhere.

I think the largest shot I have ever witnessed was the detonation of something like 3 tons of explosives. I am having trouble fathoming 192 tons.
Did you see in the video how many people they had loading the explosives?

They are setting up the seismographs. I wonder what kind of readings they will get with 192 tons going off in 1700 holes?

This might be worth a road trip. I've got to be over in that part of the world anyway.

I will find out their name. They ae the same guys that imploded 3 cities in Wanzhou. Since 2002 they have probably blasted about 1,000 structures. They did 30 buildings in one shot last year.

It sure would be nice if they did. But you know, architects and engineers never think of things like that until us demo guys bring it up.

Do you know who is doing the blast?

I received an e-mail from my buddy in China. Evidently, this is the 2nd cofferdam to be blasted. He said that on this phase of the project they have over 100 75+ ton excavators.

I sure hope these guys know about "Dead Pressing". :)

For the life of me I don't know why when temporary structures are built they don't have the forethought of demolition in mind. It would have been really easy to preinstall PVC pipes when they poured this thing. Then they wouldn't have to drill and could load the explosives directly into the pipes.
