Clarksburg, WV Mayor Margaret Bailey announced that the demolition of the John W. Davis state office building in downtown Clarksburg has been put on hold.
The Division of Purchasing wants to reexamine the bids submitted for the project.
David Tincher, who heads the state Division of Purchasing, sent a letter ordering Reclaim Company to stop preparing to raze the John W. Davis State Office Building on Oct. 7.
Michigan-based company Dore & Associates submitted the lowest bid of $619,200 for the project only to see it rejected for using a gold sticker instead of a raised seal on a financial document. When the state awarded the contract to Reclaim Company, which bid $678,000, Dore sued Tincher and the state in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Clarksburg city leaders had hoped to begin demolition after the first of the year. The building has been vacant for years and demolition would help the revitalization of the area.
