Here is some pictures of the implosion. Looks like they used about 800 pounds. Loudspeakers blared Presley's "All Shook Up," as some shed tears and others lounged on lawn chairs, sipping champagne mimosas and bloody Marys.

The 99 year old hospital, was blasted at 6:45 am, moments after sunrise. It took 20 seconds to collapse into rubble three stories high.

Looks like they are about 1/3 of the way done, looks like there will be 2 implosions:

1. The Plant's towel distribution building on November 19th
2. The Smokestacks in about 8 months.

Even if he only shot a 1/5th of the tructure it would still be over a million square feet.

I think theya re going to shoot a big chunk of the plant on the 12th and the smokestacks a couple of months from know.
I walked through that plant and it is huge. The only other building I have been in that is larger is the one at Oak Ridge. It too is coming out for bid shortly. I don't have my file with me but I think the footprint is something like 27 acres :)

Robert,

It is my understanding that the implosion will be for the 2 smoke stacks and the rest of the building will be done by conventional demolition. I have put in a call into David Griffin this morning and soon as I hear something I will post.

I think the largest implosion this year is going to be the Pillowtex Plant on Nov. 12

Elvis Has Left The Building!!

Controlled Demolition Inc. once collapsed the hotel where Elvis Presley was married as well as several places where he performed. Now, the Baltimore County company is preparing to implode the building where Presley was pronounced dead.

The Phoenix, Md.-based company will be the ones igniting the explosives on Nov. 6 when a 20-story tower, 924,000-square-foot building in Memphis -- once the main hospital of Baptist Memorial Health Care -- is slated to come down.

Apparently this is will be the largest building implosion of the year in the US.
