Developers of a shopping mall complex in eastern Henrico County, Va., have announced plans to use recycled materials in the mall’s construction, according to a report in the Times-Dispatch (Richmond, Va.).
Developers of The Shops at White Oak Village says they plant to recycle 93 percent of the 500,000-square-foot former Viasystems Technologies Corp. plant that is being demolished to make way for the Richmond-area shopping center.
Concrete from the plant will be crushed and reused for the foundations, sidewalks and structural support. According to the report, scrap metals will be recycled as well.
Demolition began in January and is scheduled to be completed by June
