A new development is going up on Butte's South Side, but first the last standing reminder of a historic school is torn down.
Early on Friday morning, not much remained of Longfellow School on Wynne Avenue which is being taken down so a new residential development can go up.
Marc Snow of Smith Contracting says explosives were set and the implosion occurred at 10:05 a.m.
Experts were brought in from Intermountain West Energy of Whitehall to set the explosives and a Snow says a small crowd gathered to watch the implosion.
He also says several residents and former teachers stopped by to salvage a piece of the building before it was completely torn down.
The owner of the property, Guy Ossello who plans to build single or multi family homes on the site.
