One worker was killed and another seriously injured in the collapse of a Nashville building that was scheduled for demolition.
Firefighters found the body of Richard Whiteshield, 57, Clewiston, Fla., in the rubble Friday after they pulled Daryl Kemper, 45, Dendersonville, out alive.
Passersby told The Tennessean they were "stunned" to hear the loud crash and then to see a dust cloud where the workers had just been standing. Men who appeared to be part of the work crew stood at the scene and openly cried as they awaited word from firefighters who retrieved the men from the dusty debris.
The workers had been searching for natural gas lines in preparation for tearing the old store down.
Kemper was listed in stable condition Friday, and a search dog confirmed late Friday that no one else was buried in the wreckage.
