Buffalo Place has joined the chorus calling for demolition of the Skyway. The downtown business group Wednesday unanimously approved a call for the elevated highway to be torn down. In its anti-Skyway measure, the Buffalo Place board says the artery's demise will improve the downtown business climate and lead to significant new investment.
Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, is leading the charge to raze the waterfront artery, and has gained the support of a long list of local governments, including the Buffalo Common Council, the City of Buffalo, the Erie County Legislature and the Lackawanna City Council.
