Lafayette, IN city officials delayed awarding a contract for the demolition of Bridgeway Apartments today because city officials are still researching bids.

Lafayette Redevelopment Commission members voted to delay awarding the contract on the recommendation of Dennis Carson, the city's redevelopment director.

Carson said city officials need more time to sort through the sections of the seven bids the city received on June 25 that detail how the Bridgeway structures would be demolished and reused.

Carson said the city is committed to using green standards throughout the Bridgeway redevelopment project, starting with the demolition.

Plainfield-based Denney Excavating Inc. was the apparent low bidder with a $395,000 bid. Bids were as high as $913,000.

After the site is cleared, Brinshore Development plans to start constructing a new housing complex on the site at the intersection of Greenbush Street and Shenandoah Drive on Lafayette's east side.
