Hello everyone,
I found this article in the Lansing (MI) State Journal.
Before the Deluxe Inn is torn down in August, it's transforming into a hot spot for urban art.
More than 25 graffiti artists will turn the old motel into an art project Saturday and Sunday.
"We want to show there is a need for public spaces for public artists," said Joe Manzella, who works for Lansing Economic Area Partnership Inc.
The grass-roots group Accelerate Lansing will coordinate the art project, which is meant as an opportunity for the public to watch the graffiti unfold and be able to ask questions of the artists.
Local artists will be allowed to set up their work from other mediums on the property around the motel too. The art will be on display and open to the public until August 8. Volunteers will be on hand during daylight hours to answer questions.
After the art exhibition, the Lansing Fire Department will use the building as a training ground to practice breaking through doors and walls to get to fires. The Land Bank of Ingham County, which owns the property, will oversee its demolition after the firefighter training is completed.
"It's kind of creative destruction," said Eric Schertzing, chairman of the land bank that bought the Deluxe Inn.
