The owners of Aviation Plaza will demolish the former Wal-Mart building that has sat vacant for four years during an unsuccessful attempt to land a new tenant.
Donn Davids, senior leasing agent for U.S. Properties Group, said the company has "exhausted the interest" in the building over the years the company has owned Aviation Plaza, and demolition will start once the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture ends. The adjacent strip mall may also be torn down because the Oshkosh market has a glut of small retail spaces, Davids said.
"We might, in the end, end up just starting over there with the whole center," Davids said. "It's a community we'll be able to do business in and it's just a matter of timing. Better things are ahead for the Oshkoshes of the world, but it doesn't mean we can make it overnight."
Davids said the company hopes a vacant, ready-to-develop site would attract more interest from big box retailers. He said he hopes development can begin on the site by this time next year.
