Hangar 10, the oldest aircraft hangar at Tulsa International Airport, has a date with the wrecking ball later this year.
The 84-year-old stone, glass and wood-roofed hangar is a remnant of the early days of Tulsa's aviation history, but its fate has been sealed by Federal Aviation Administration regulations, airport officials said.
Both Tulsair Beechcraft Inc.'s Hangar 10 and its former Hangar 8, which was razed last year, are in the FAA's mandated runway protection zone of the 7,695-foot east-west crosswind runway, said Jeff Hough, deputy airports director of engineering and facilities.
The FAA regulation prohibits buildings or other obstructions at the end of commercial runways.
