After months of legal wrangling, the city of New Orleans began the slow and emotional job of demolishing homes wrecked beyond repair by Hurricane Katrina, a key step in the cleanup process that may also add to the body count six months after the storm. Three homes were torn down Monday in three of the worst-hit neighborhoods - Lakeview, Gentilly and the Lower Ninth Ward. They were the first of 118 planned demolitions of homes blocking streets or other rights of way after Katrina's flood waters lifted them off their foundations.
We are just going to keep hearing these story for the next few years.
