Sunshine Environmental Services of Waterville is the apparent lower bidder at $420,462 for an asbestos abatement project at Central New York Psychiatric Center in Marcy.
Sunshine was the primary contractor for the asbestos removal and demolition at the former Rome Free Academy that was completed last year, receiving over $2 million in work for the project that still faces some complications. Sunshine is involved in legal disputes with the Rome school district involving additional payment claims for services on the project, while the Environmental Protection Agency has a pending complaint against the school district and Sunshine.
The Central New York Psychiatric Center work was one of six contracts statewide for which the state Office of General Services announced low bidders this week. The bids represented more than $8 million in new construction involving sites in six counties.
Contracts are expected to be awarded to apparent low bidders following the regular review and approval process via the state Comptroller
