Fire disrupts demolition at Ozmun building

ROCHESTER, Minn. – It’s a downtown demolition site that caught fire Wednesday morning. Fire crews were called to a structure fire at the Ozmun building downtown around 10:30 a.m.

The Rochester Fire Department says they found smoke showing from what looked like the top of the parking ramp of the Ozmun Building. A search of the building found no one inside. Construction workers on site pointed firefighters to an area where they believed the fire was happening. Crews were able to run a line to where the fire was happening and attack the fire from above. No injuries were reported.

The Ozmun building is being torn down by Mayo Clinic to make way for expansion through Mayo Clinic’s Bold Forward Unbound project.

The RFD firefighter we spoke with said it could be a number of things in a demolition site, like metal moving around, causing friction and igniting a fire.
