It is, of course, interesting to note the DemoCareers is in beta testing and I sincerely hope that this will be another step in the right direction. However, although they are currently waiving their fee, I am pretty sure that this site will ultimately make a charge.

Demolition-Jobs.co.uk works in reverse - It is not designed for employers to post details of vacant positions but for employees to advertise their availability to work. Neither the employee nor the employer EVER pay a dime.

Admittedly, the demolition-jobs.co.uk concept works best during times of recession when (a) there are plenty of unemployed workers willing to use the site and (b) plenty of employers looking to cut their recruitment costs. But if a US version of the site lasted only 12 months and only helped one of our fellow demolition workers back into gainful employment, surely that would make it a worthwhile exercise, particularly as it's not sending any money whatsoever outside the demolition industry?

This sounds like a great idea! I know most demo workers are pretty mobile and willing to go where the work is. If you don't, you don't eat!
Let me know if there is any thing I can help with.

Dan...Thanks for posting your thoughts and I also have been giving that very issue some mind process also...If some in our industry are not all that computer savvy...we could always establish a toll free number or some kind of online/offline help to get them into the system... but I think this would need to be a “team” effort for everyone in the industry who thinks this is a good idea and one that I would most be willing to volunteer any help and time needed on my end.....Count me in!!...

I am willing to help out with something like this...The only thing is that a lot of the guys we work with are not computer savy. But I agree with the UK job post. This is why the industry in Europe is a lot more advanced than the US.

neyc....Rest assured this is not in any way, shape, or form the same site...It is a "real good" idea and something I feel everyone who works in this industry (US Contractors) should think about very seriously.. but it is kind of disappointing that only three of us have posted anything regarding this question...I'm not sure anymore that this industry is not truly on the "race to the bottom"?...

Was that the site that just got fined as well as Balofour Beatty because of blackballing employees?
Done right I think it is a good idea.

Great idea! Let's get them working ASAP. It would help the country and help everyone concerned.

Why aren't we adopting this idea from the UK?

I have just been reading on demolitionnews.com about the success of the UK's demolition-jobs.co.uk initiative that allows unemployed demolition workers to advertise their availability for work free of charge. I have made some initial inquiries and understand that the developers of demolition-jobs.co.uk would be happy to supply the code required to replicate this site in the US for just a few thousand dollars.
Given that the NDA claims there are almost 10,000 US demolition workers currently unemployed, would it not be sensible (and cost-effective) to speak to these guys about reproducing this site for US use?
