Hospital damaged by Hurricane Irma to be demolished

ORMOND BEACH — Workers are preparing a Florida hospital for demolition more than a year after it was destroyed by Hurricane Irma.
Florida Hospital Oceanside spokeswoman Lindsay Cashio told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that preparations have begun but the demolition won’t be complete until summer.
The hospital on Florida’s Atlantic Coast sustained wind and water damage and one of its exterior walls was compromised by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. The hospital, which sits across A1A from the Atlantic Ocean was also damaged by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
Cashio said officials had hoped to reopen the hospital but the damage was too severe.
Officials said the hospital will sell a portion of the property and retain a 2.44-acre portion for future endeavors.
