City Soliciting Bids for Demolition of Civic Auditorium

On behalf of the City of Omaha’s Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department, the Douglas County Purchasing Agent is issuing this Request for Proposal to solicit proposals from qualified contractors/consultants to submit proposals for the Demolition and salvage of the Civic Auditorium located at 1804 Capital Street, Omaha, Nebraska.
 
 
 
The property is owned by the City of Omaha, Nebraska. The City plans to facilitate private re-development of the property following demolition and removal of the present structure.

The Mayor’s Office said in a press release that salvage work on the Civic should begin later this year, and demolition should be complete next year.

Memorabilia and most building fixtures were sold earlier at auction.

Bidders for the current project must salvage any remaining equipment, fixtures and salvageable building materials. They also must remove and dispose of asbestos and other environmentally hazardous materials, remove and dispose of construction debris and any underground tanks, and demolish the building foundations, footings and slabs.

Bidders also will be required to hire an environmental firm to identify and quantify any hazardous materials.

The city had previously estimated the cost of demolition at $5 million to $7 million.
